Report
Argos, 22 Karantza Street (Property of P. Marlagoutsou). Christos Piteros (Δ' ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the excavation of building, pottery and graves from a number of different periods (Fig. 1). In the western part of the area were the foundations of a Hellenistic building, a rectangular room and various walls. The excavation also produced Hellenistic pottery, unguentaria and a fragment of a marble male statue. At a deeper level were deposits attributed to the Archaic and Classical periods including black-glazed pottery, clay female figurines, spools, loom-weights, a bronze fibula, other bronze objects and a clay figurine of an African boy. Also found was Geometric pottery and sherds in the Pictorial style.
In the southern part of the area were parts of Mycenaean buildings dated to Late Helladic ΙΙ-ΙΙΙΑ and at a deeper level, pottery from the Middle and Late Helladic. The discovery of three cist graves were also reported, one of which was dated to Late Helladic ΙΙ-ΙΙΙΑ and the other two to the Late Middle Helladic.
