Report
Athens, 7 Aghion Anargyron St. (O.T. 65083, property of S. Tsiakalou). E. Servetopoulou (Γ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of Protogeometric to Byzantine antiquities (Fig 1) including:
1) A protogeometric inurned cremation. The vessel used was a black-glazed, decorated amphora and a black-glazed skyphos had been placed as its lid. The vessel was put in a rectangular rock cut pit (Fig 2). The votive offerings include a black-glazed kantharos and a trefoil-lipped oinochoe.
2) A rock-cut pit used as a deposit, which contained Protogeometric pottery sherds.
3) Several rock-cut pits containing Late Geometric, Archaic, Classical and Early Roman pottery sherds.
4) A large pi-shaped rock-cut pit containing Classical pottery sherds.
5) 2 wells. One of them contained Classical pottery sherds and the other Classical and Hellenistic.
6) Hellenistic and Roman walls.
7) An extensive Roman drainage system attesting to the existence of houses and workshops in the area.
8) A road dating from Hellenistic to Late Roman times. 13 road surfaces were excavated.
9) 2 Byzantine silos (Fig 3) and a Byzantine peribolos.
10) 4 modern wells.
It appears that there was an Early Hellenistic building complex in the area which was followed by a Roman one. A pottery kiln attests to the latter. Finally, a Byzantine complex was constructed on top of the Roman one.
