Report
Kallithea, Municipal Park. E. Skiadaresi (ΚΣΤ ΕΠΚΑ) reports that excavation for the construction of the Municipal Sports and Leisure Park revealed parts of an Archaic (late seventh- to early sixth-century) road (Fig. 1). Traces of the viaduct which carried the road over a stream were also found: the stream banks were held by retaining walls (Fig. 2). Workshops in the area of the viaduct produced purple dye from porphyry harvested in the adjacent Phaleron Bay. A well in the same area was lined with two rows of clay rings with engraved letters and symbols, the binding of which used lead joints (Figs 3,4).
