KARYOTES, Spasmeni Vrysi, anc. Leukas - 2005

Spasmeni Vrysi (Megas Vatos, Karyotes), anc. Leukas. M. Stavropoulou-Gatsi and V. Staïkou (ΛΣτ’ ΕΠΚΑ) report that trial excavation was conducted on 24 properties inside the city walls to inform the definition of protected areas. The results of previous geophysical survey were confirmed via the discovery of architectural remains (walls of worked blocks, basements, floors etc.), with extensive and dense destruction layers containing large quantities of pottery, workshop and storage areas (the latter with pithoi) belonging to the centre of the ancient city.
