MAMOUSIA - Profitis Ilias - 2001

Mamousia, Profitis Ilias. E.-I. Kolia (Στ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports that cleaning exposed the foundations of two buildings probably related to the Classical sanctuary. A few architectural members (parts of a sandstone geison block and marble rooftiles) were also scattered in the area, plus the thigh of a small marble male statue. Trial excavation in a temple-like building in the west of the site revealed a cella and prodomos with one–three courses of the local sandstone walls preserved, bearing traces of burning. Fill inside contained pottery, terracotta and marble rooftiles, architectural members, terracotta figurines, miniature vessels and a few bronze items. In the prodomos was a broken marble Corinthian-type cover tile.
