Report
Argos, Chalepa, Karpetopoulou Street (A.B.E.E. tile works). Ch. Piteros (Δ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a 49m-long stretch of a 4.6-5m wide ancient road running north-south on the same orientation as the modern street. A few Hellenistic sherds were collected. Above the road was an almost 4m-thick deposit of clay deposited during episodes of flooding of the Inachos and Charadros rivers. Over the road surface, near the north end, was a cremation site, a clay-lined pit containing an upper layer of ash, burnt material, and 16 large lachrymateria, and a lower with a little burnt bone, carbonised wood and a further 16 lachrymateria.
