Report
Kanoni, Figareto Street. I. Kassari property. M. Nakou (Η’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on excavation on a plot 20m south east of the Soueref property. Beneath destruction layers lay remains of a total of 11 walls, a clay floor (on which lay a ritual basin on a square base, probably with a surrounding wall) and a probable substructure to the floor. Beneath this, a curved structure of small stones extended beyond the south side of the excavation; a further semicircular structure of small stones lay at the southern boundary. Excavation was halted at the point when a second destruction level of tile and stone was reached. Activity spanned the Early Archaic to Roman periods. Two silver and 124 bronze Hellenistic and Roman coins were found (both from Corfu and from other regions such as Leukas and Macedonia), metal items, many hollow figurines, and much pottery (plain, glazed and decorated) mostly of the Hellenistic and Roman periods, with less Classical and a little Archaic at specific points on the north side of the plot.
