Report
Monomati, Monomatiou Street. Between this road and Tatoiou Street, ca. 1km north of the sanctuaries on Thivaidos Street, M. Platonos (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on investigation of an ancient road (27m long) oriented north-south (Figs 1-3), with at least two, Late Archaic-Early Classical and Roman, phases.
A burial in a pithoid amphora was found east of the road, plus part of an offering trench containing Archaic sherds. In this same area, the south and part of the west walls of a two-roomed Neolithic house were preserved.
To the west of Monomatiou street, a small farmhouse was excavated (Figs 4,5) - a rare instance of a residence preserved in Acharnes and its neighbouring demes. The structure dates to the Early-Late Classical period and had at least two (fifth- and fourth-century phases). In the first phase the building was elliptical and contained lamps and animal bones. On top of this structure was a later room (internally 3.7 x 3.3m) and a large courtyard to the west with a peribolos.
