Report
Athens metro. Excavation for the ventilation shafts and stations of the west extension of Line 3. D. N. Christodoulou (Β’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports.
Junction of Mesogeion Avenue and 17th November Street. Excavation for the construction of the Phokidos shaft revealed a 17.5m long stretch of the main ancient road running northeast-southwest from the city to the Mesogeia. Parts of two successive southern retaining walls and the road surface were found. A few sherds place the initial construction of the road in the fourth-century BC.
Junction of Mesogeion Avenue and Iridos Street. Excavation for the construction of the Nomismatokopeio station revealed a stratum containing Classical-Roman pottery (mostly undecorated, with a few black-glaze sherds).
