Athens, Anc. Agora. Excavations by the Γ’ ΕΠΚΑ during works for the replacement of the southern electric railway tracks between Omonia and Monastiraki brought to light grave stelai, 25 ancient wells, a section of the Panathenaic way, remains of an ancient stone mason’s workshop, and part of a Mycenaean chamber tomb. Of particular importance was the discovery of the remainder of the Altar of the Twelve Gods and the Stoa of Zeus Eleutherios beyond the northern boundary of the Agora archaeological site. The remains have been temporarily reburied and excavation will continue beneath the northern set of tracks.
