Report
Varvara N. Papadopoulou and Maria Niarou (Ephorate of Antiquities of Arta) report on rescue excavations that took place within the south wing’s cells of the monastery in the Church of Panagia Parigoritissa in Arta.
Previous excavations revealed two parallel walls T1 and T2 indicating that the monastery was extended to the south (Fig. 1).
In 2015 the excavation was conducted in the area around the monastery and specifically inside and outside the cells of the south wing.
Room II yielded pottery sherds dated to the Classical, Hellenistic and Byzantine times, parts of glass vessels, unidentified bronze coins and 2 coins dated to the Hellenistic times.
Room III yielded several small tripods that were used in kiln firing as vessel stands.
To the east of Room III, two graves contained child burials without grave goods.
