Report
Vasiliki Galani (Ephorate of Antiquities of Arta) reports on the discovery of six graves on work conducted at Kostakia and Keramata settlements in Arta, 2014-2016.
Grave 1 was found near Agios Georgios church in 2014: Tile grave with orientation E-W. Skeleton of a female in supine extended position with arms by the sides and a bronze coin.
In 2015 the excavation continued to the E of Agios Georgios Kostakia church revealing 4 tile graves:
Grave 2: Skeleton of a female in supine extended position with arms upon the hip, orientation W-E.
Grave 3: Skeleton of a female in supine extended position with left arm upon the hip and the right arm by the side, orientation W-E (Fig 1). Grave goods: a bronze earring (Fig. 3).
Grave 4: Skeleton of a child in supine extended position with right arm upon the hip, orientation NW-SE (Fig. 2).
Grave 5: Skeleton of a male in supine extended position with the left arm upon the hip and the right arm extended by the side.
Grave 6 was found at the Arta-Koronisia street: disturbed burial contained the skeleton of a female in supine extended position with arms crossed over the chest. Grave goods: a bronze earring (Fig. 3).
