K. Preka-Alexandri (Ephorate of Antiquities of Thesprotia) reports on continuing excavations that took place within the theatre of Gitana.
S of the koilon (cavea) and by the edges of the kerkides (stands) VI and VII, part of the backrest with dimensions: 14,30m length and 0,76m width was revealed (Fig. 1). Cleaning of the 14th row of seating yielded a copper coin dated to the Koinon of Epiroton era. On the obverse, bust of Artemis in profile is portrayed. On the reverse, the point of a spear together with the inscription ΑΠΕΙΡΩΤΑΝ.Trial trenching in the southwest side of the stage’s back wall revealed part of the wall built in the polygonal system (Fig. 2).
