Amaliada - Kourouta - 2017
Kouroutas
Amaliada - Kourouta. Christos Liagkouras (Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia) reports the following:
Rescue excavations in the coastal area of Kourouta, west of Amaliada in Elis, revealed part of a Roman bath and the remains of a large building, probably a villa maritima. Oriented E-W, the villa, of which 590 m2 have been excavated so far, has a rectangular plan, consisting of two elongated corridors surrounding a cluster of smaller rooms. According to the excavated pottery, the building’s main occupation phase dates from the 3rd to the 5th c. AD. The villa maritima at Kourouta is the first building of this type found in Elis.
