Derveni
Derveni. Dimitra Sarri (Ephorate of Antiquities of Argolida) reports the following:
A Late Roman (2nd-4th c. AD) bath was excavated at Derveni in western Corinthia under the supervision of the Archaeological Ephorate of Corinthia, during the construction of the new railroad. Ten rooms and a central hall with a black and white mosaic floor depicting geometric designs, as well as several pools, were identified. The north rooms, which had no heating system, had walls of opus mixtum and stone-paved floors. The east and south rooms were heated by hypocausts; two of these rooms preserve the suspensura. Their walls (0.50-0.60 m thick, with a max. pres. height of 1.93 m) had a facing made of bricks and narrow bands of cement, a rubble and cement fill, and were heated by tubuli and tegullae mammatae. The bath features renovation phases, and part of its building material was later reused in other buildings. After excavation, the bath was preserved in situ under the newly built viaduct, and is scheduled to become the first organized archaeological site near Derveni.
