En 1988, une épave, qui semble bien être celle du vaisseau amiral de Kara-Ali, coulé par Kanaris le 6 juin 1822, a été repérée à un mille du port de Chios, gisant par 50 m de fond. L'Éphorie des antiquités sous-marines en a entrepris la fouille.
