Kato Alepochori. A large fortification wall (19m long, 3.7m wide) was discovered 130m from the northwest slopes of the acropolis of ancient Pagai (Figs 1-2). The wall is oriented north-south, with a gateway (1.4m wide) protected by a square tower (6.8m x 6.8m). Pottery from the foundations dates it to the Late Archaic and Early Classical periods. A nearby well remained in use from the fourth century AD until the 19th century.
