Megalopolis
El. Venizelou Road, (private property of K. Christeas), Megalopoli. Stamatis Frintzilas (ΛΘ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the short-term rescue excavation held inside the archaeological site of Megalopoli, which revealed a small firing kiln. The excavation occurred due to the construction of a parking space in Mr. Christeas’ property.
The kiln was circular and small, and it was not determined whether it was used for pottery making or for limestone processing. Many pottery sherds were found (monochrome, black-painted, sherd of a pithos etc.). They dated the kiln in the Hellenistic times.
The construction continued and the kiln stayed in place, according to ΛΘ’ ΕΠΚΑ’s decision.
