Près de l’îlot de Syrna, au large d’Astypalaia, un plongeur d’éponges a remonté environ 30 000 monnaies et un groupe de 250 monnaies collées (fig. 1), provenant d’une épave gisant à 47 m de fond et datant, d’après les monnaies, du IIIe s. apr. J.-C.
