Kalligoni, east of manhole 18 - 2008
Kalligonio
Kalligoni, east of manhole 18. Maria Gatsi (ΛΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on discoveries made during the construction of a new sewage network for the area.
Two cist graves were discovered at this site, parallel to one another with orientation EW (Fig. 1). They contained a few grave goods (ceramic vessels, bronze coins, a glass perfume jar, bronze nails). Grave 2 had been reused in the Roman period, while one of its cover slabs had been used for another grave in secondary use. Two column bases were also found around the graves.
Sections of wall from possible burial enclosures were investigated. Both walls were oriented SE-NW. Enclosure A is 1.72 x 0.6m, and enclosure B is 1.80 x 1.40m.
