Kazantzakis Street and Lountemis Street (O.T. 22, property of the General Hospital), Agrinio - 2008
Agrinio
Kazantzakis Street and Lountemis Street (O.T. 22, property of the General Hospital), Agrinio. Maria Gatsi (ΛΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on discoveries made at this plot, during the demolition of stone houses and landscaping work.
Twelve test trenches were laid in an area 30 x 30m. In the centre of the plot, a rectangular destruction deposit came to light with dimensions 4.35 x 2.50m. The walls were made of sandstone and preserved to the foundations (Fig. 1). A layer of roof tiles and stone was found in this area (Fig. 2), and ceramics of the post-classical periods were collected and part of a figurine head. Over 60 pyramidal or conical loom weights were found (Fig. 3,4), several of which were marked in various ways (Fig. 5). It is possible that this was a domestic production area.
