Property of Ch. Apostolopoulou, near Nea Idragogeia, Messolongi. Maria Gatsi (ΛΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on cleaning and exposing of sections of the ancient fortification wall.
The whole fortification wall runs 1340m in length. To the E part of the ancient city, 44m of the wall were investigate (Fig. 1,2), a curved section running NW-SE. On the W side, the width of the wall could not be ascertained as it has been repurposed as the property boundary with Ch. Drellias. To the S side, the wall is polygonal in form and rests on the natural rock (Fig. 3); pottery from the Classical period was found here.
