Ioannina
Intersection of Tsechoulis Street and Anthrakitou Street (property of M. Basdeki), Ioannina. Georgia Pliakou (IB’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on remains of a walled settlement located within the kastro of Ioannina.
Fragmentary walls were found 1m below the surface (Fig. 1), including overlapping construction phases. Room one measured 4m x 2.70m, and had a thin clay floor on which there were traces of burning. Finds from this floor indicate a use of the building in the Classical period (Fig. 2,3,4). Room 2 (NW corner of the E end of the excavation) was in use only in the fifth century BC. Between the two rooms was a corridor space of 1.80m width. In the Hellenistic period, two parallel walls of limestone brick were found, demarcating a separate room.
