Kato Neochoropoylo
Palabouti plot, Kato Neochoropoulo, Ioannina. Ioulia Katsadima and Eleni Vasileiou (IB’ ΕΠΚΑ) report on the discovery of a prehistoric settlement at this state (Fig. 1).
The prehistoric stratum comprised grey-brown soil, in which a large quantity of sherds and stone tools were found. This layer was above a lighter brown soil, full of gravel and burnt organic residues.
A the SW end of the plot, a group of stones were found in a semicircle, possibly part of a building made of perishable materials (wood) and stone foundations. A large number of clay pieces were collected from here, also thought to be from the building structure. In the NE corner, a circle clay structure was found in a high concentration of carbon inside, possibly a hearth (Fig. 2).
Many sherds, conical loom weights and stone tools were collected from this site. Radiocarbon dating puts the site in the Middle Bronze Age.
