Property of K. and Z. Angelakopoulou, Acharavi, Corfu - 2007
Property of K. and Z. Angelakopoulou, Acharavi, Corfu. Katerina Kanta-Kitsou and Eleni Bounia (H’ ΕΠΚΑ) report on excavations conducted at this site.
Foundations of 18 walls were discovered. To the SE, a furnace was found in two parts (Fig. 2), rectangular in shape with small cavities around the perimeter. Clay samples taken from this area indicate the cavities could reach temperatures of 1150 degrees Celsius, the sorts of temperatures that might have been used in antiquity for processing clay, glass, metals, or some pigments. The furnace ceased to be used at some point and had become a refuse pit for ceramics and seashells.
