Description
Patras, D.E.Y.A. works. Lambrini Papakosta (ΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on architectural remains discovered across the city during public works undertaken by the water company. These included walls, floors and pipes attributed to the Roman and Byzantine periods. Also discovered was a burial chamber (columbarium) with an arched roof, with a length and width of 3 m. and 2.50 m. respectively (Figs 1. 2). Six niches, three each on along the northern and southern side were identified. On the floor of each niche was a hole for the outflow of liquids used in the course of religious ceremonies (profusia) (Fig. 3). The monument was internally constructed using the opus testaceum system.
