Description
Piraeus, 4 Euripidou St. (property of Th. Katsikarou). K. Axioti (ΚΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of a Roman cemetery. Part of this cemetery had been excavated in the adjacent properties (7 and 9 Distomou St.) in the past (AD 35: 62). 18 rock cut graves were found all of which were looted. The few finds retrieved include glass unguentaria and bone pins. The cemetery was constructed on top of the road running between the Long Walls, and towards the Athenian asty. The road and the gate leading to it had fallen out of use in Roman times.
A. Aslanides supervised the excavation under the direction of K. Axioti.
