Description
Kephallonia, Cape Kapsalimniona.D. Evangelistis and C. Dellaporta (EMA) report the discovery of remains from a Late Roman shipwreck in the southern part of the Kephallonia-Ithaca channel. A pile of ballast (68 stones) were found at a depth of 25-30m, and in the same area, sections of one LR2 and one Dressel 5 amphora, and a ceramic cylinder 0.2m in diameter (perhaps a vessel neck). Ca 100m further north (towards the Cape), part of a LR4 amphora was lifted, along with a complete amphora (a variant on the LR2 type). Investigation was carried to a depth of 31m, but reports indicate that more pots have been located at greater depth.
