Report
Angelokastro. M. Stavropoulou-Gatsi (Director emerita, ΛΣτ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a Mycenaean settlement during construction of the Ionia Odos (Agrinion by-pass, between Angelokastro and Kouvara, at markers 15+100 to 15+550). The site lies on an extensive plateau on a hilltop on the left bank of the Acheloos river, between Angelokastro and Stamna. Since the site is close to the modern surface, most architectural remains had been badly damaged by cultivation (only a few parts of building foundations were preserved). However, the remains of kilns for pottery production, and the large quantity of plain domestic vessels plus LH IIIA-B thin-walled fine decorated wares collected, underline the significance of the site.
