Description
Sykoula, Kainourgio (property of K. Giannogianni). M. Stavropoulou-Gatsi (Director emerita, ΛΣτ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports that excavation of the reported findspot of 17 lead sling bullets handed over to the Archaeological Service revealed a further 114 such bullets. Eighty nine bore legible inscriptions (44 instances of ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, 31 of ΒΑΒΥΡΤΑ, and 14 of ΠΕΤΑ/ΛΟΥ), while the rest were very worn. A spearhead and 21 arrowheads were also found, but no architectural remains. The site extended over the tops and slopes of a low hill ca. 700m north of the ancient fountain of Veinovrysi.
