TSOUKALEIKA - 2001
Type of Operation
Tsoukaleika, 130km marker on the Patras-Pyrgos road (Paparrodopoulou property). A. Vasilogamvrou (Στ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a round potter’s kiln with three construction phases. In the first phase the chamber was sunk 2.43m down into the local clay, and the eschara supported on an earthen mound across the middle of the chamber. Two successive floor levels were preserved; on a third above them, which related to the second construction phase, were brick-built supports for the eschara. In the third phase, the chamber was reduced and reshaped into a rectangle, with a new stomion opened northeast of the original (which was blocked). Tile was used for this construction phase, which may be early modern in date.
