Description
Chania, 40 Botsari Street (Sperelaki property). Μ. Andreadaki-Vlazaki (ΚΕ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports excavations on the edge of the ancient city. Nineteen pit graves from the Turkish cemetery (two of children), all without grave goods, were cut into a layer rich in Roman pottery. Below were parts of eight walls and 12 earth floors from a Hellenistic building that had undergone adaptations in the Roman period. To the south, a stretch of dirt road separated this building from its neighbour. Small finds included bronze and iron nails, loomweights, bone objects, the head of a female Hellenistic figurine and 15 damaged bronze coins.
