Report
Vathy. A. Soteriou (Director, ΛΕ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports surface finds from the hills around the town (and from rescue excavation within it) which indicate settlement of the area in the Mycenaean, Geometric, Archaic and Hellenistic periods.
A Roman-Late Roman complex found in rescue excavation in the public car park included a domestic shrine which yielded a bronze figurine perhaps depicting Asklepios (or a poet or philosopher, fig. 1), and an adjacent bath.
A group of Roman tombs with rich grave goods (including glass vessels) were excavated in the grounds of the town school.
