Description
Voula. 62A Eleftherias Street (Salakou property, O.T.315A). T. Kattoula (ΚΣτ ΕΠΚΑ) reports that excavation for the building of a cistern revealed the west retaining wall (10.5m long) of an ancient road parallel to Eleftherias Street. This led from the centre of the ancient deme of Halai Aixonides to the most important sanctuary of the deme, the temple of Apollo Zoster, crossing its major cemetery. The course of this road has previously been traced in rescue excavations in many plots, its starting point being the Boutzouvi property, at the junction of Varis Avenue with Mystra Street.
The foundations of a building, probably a farm house, were found, the eastern wall of which served as the retaining of the ancient road.
Many sherds of domestic pottery were recovered, as well as much black-glazed pottery dating from the end of the fifth to the middle of the fourth century BC.
