Report
Doliana, Kouphogi. The ΛΘ’ ΕΠΚΑ reports the discovery of an ancient limestone quarry southwest of the Roman villa at Eva (Fig. 1). The quarry, which is relatively shallow and extends over at least 1.2ha, preserves toolmarks showing a variety of techniques of block extraction. Blocks of this specific size were used in the so-called hypostyle hall (basilica) in the Roman complex at Eva, which is dated by the excavator (Th. Spyropoulos) to the first century AD, with later additions in the second century. Blocks of the same limestone (on macroscopic examination) are also found at Kourmeki, near Kato Doliana, where Roman and Early Christian remains are located.
