Description
Xiropigado, Tzavorema. Nafpaktos By-pass, section Γ. F. Saranti (ΛΣτ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a new cemetery site during road construction immediately south of the Nafpaktos-Itea road. Six tile and pit graves were excavated, along with the remains of at least two others. The graves, set into gravel levels, were arranged into groups and had been badly damaged by ploughing. Most were oriented east-west and many contained the remains of re-interments. Only one grave (V) contained a ceramic bowl: the rest had no goods. The little pottery collected indicates a Late Roman date for the cemetery, although test trenches across the site also produced a few Hellenistic sherds. The associated settlement has yet to be identified.
