Description
Athens metro. Excavation for the ventilation shafts and stations of the west extension of Line 3. Junction of Mesogeion Avenue and 33 Xanthou Street.
D. N. Christodoulou (Β’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports that excavation for the Xanthou shaft revealed the foundation course of an ancient wall oriented east-west (13 long, 0.5m wide), plus a little pottery including a black-glazed skyphos of the first quarter of the fifth century BC. Under the foundation were fragments of a mid sixth-century lekanis. Parallel to, and 0.5m from, the wall, was an extensive fill of stones and Roman tile and domestic pottery.
