Description
Athens, Kavouri (between Voula and Vouliagmeni). Excavation of a 0.5ha plot between Kerkyras and Marni Streets, in an area known as Ag. Nikolaos Pallon, revealed structures of several periods close to the site where ruins of the Late Roman and Early Christian periods were discovered in the 1960s.
The earliest, Classical, building was overlaid by the foundations of a small cruciform post-Byzantine church with an apse at the east and an entrance at the west. Two tile graves and one cist were also found. Fragments of a small marble grave stele date to the end of the fourth century BC. In late Antiquity, two pottery kilns were installed at the site, one circular made of brick, the other square with an apsidal entrance.
