Description
Kapandriti, Kotroni Hill. A. Papadimitriou-Grammenou, P. Georgiou-Geka, and P. Petridis (Athens) report on continuing excavation on the hill probably to be identified with ancient Aphidna. To the east of the crest of the hill, a semicircular tower and part of a connecting wall was revealed in 2008.The aim of the 2009 season was to trace further the walls which seem to surround a large portion of the perimeter of the crest of the hill. On the south, a corner made with large stones was revealed. To the north, the continuation of the walls was traced over a length of 7.3m. The interior of the walls was investigated to the west of the newly-revealed corner. Sixth-century black-figure pottery was discovered, as well as part of the head and wings of a sphinx, and a female dancing figure. Excavation was not undertaken in 2010 because of work to erect a temporary roof over the tower.
