Sgornes plot (L. Dermitzaki farm), Ano Kounoupitsa, Kisamos. Maria Skordou (ΚΕ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on discoveries from the newly defined archaeological site of Elliniko Spiliari.
Rescue excavation at this site has brought to light an ancient cemetery with a significant number of finds from the post-classical / early-Hellenistic periods. In addition, there was industrial activity here in the Roman period.
In the NW part of the plot investigated, traces of quarrying were evident from the rocks, similar to an outcrop found in the NE of the property. Pottery was collected from the Late Classical to Roman periods.
In summary, the hill has a few contexts on its, but has mainly been used for livestock and forestry. The post-classical cemetery appears to extend S to the top of the hill and to adjacent properties.
