Description
Sfendili, Aposelemis. Maria Mavraki-Balanou (ΚΓ΄ ΕΠΚΑ) reports that in the area of Sfendili village, which is going to be flooded and sunk due to the new dam which is being built in Aposelemis, and in the area where a road is being reamed towards the W/NW of the main dam embankment, the remains of a deposit or a Middle Minoan concentration was found. Based on the collection of scattered building material, it seems that some kind of human activity took place in the area. It is possible that a refuse pit was present.
This area is archaeologically and geographically related to Area 2A and Area 2B. Pottery sherds dating from the Middle Minoan to the Classical and Roman period were found in the former, potentially brought there from a higher location. The surface finds of the latter, which along with Area 2A comprised the same settlement complex, date from the Late Classical to the Roman period as well.
The supplementary areas related to the aforementioned spaces might be extending higher, towards the hills outside of the flooded basin.
