Description
Kalamata, Farios Street. Michalis Kappas (26th ΕΒΑ) reports on the discovery of antiquities during construction work associated with the replacement of water pipes in the town. The excavation produced a small rectangular structure which was probably related to the Late Ottoman sewerage system. Also collected were a few iron nails and pottery sherds of the 19th and 20th centuries. Another rectangular structure was excavated, probably a cistern. It was internally lined with hydraulic plaster and within were sherds of unpainted and glazed pottery, the majority attributed to the Ottoman period with a few post Byzantine pieces. To the north of the cistern was a destruction layer containing pottery of the Ottoman period.
