Description
Athens, Plato's Academy, Monastiriou and Pylou (51st Athens Middle School). M. Panagiotopoulos (Γ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of 11 burials and a rock-cut drain. Specifically, 2 poros, monolithic sarcophagi, 2 cist graves, 5 pit graves and 2 tile graves were found. The burials contained Classical black-glazed sherds (5th and 4th c. B.C.), sherds from plain ware, a bronze ring and 2 Roman unguentaria (1st/2nd A.D.). The burials belong to the cemetery that ran along the ancient road that connected the Academy with the Kerameikos.
The excavation was conducted by A. Papadopoulou.
