Description
Argyroupoli, Leontos, Marathonomachon, Megalou Alexandrou and Eleutheria Streets (OT 87, property of Dromeas Argyroupoli Co). In the area where a 4th c. B.C. road had been previously reported, Anthi Ntova(B’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of a burial and a pottery workshop. A Hellenistic tile-grave was found containing a skeleton in supine position and 3 terracotta unguentaria. The pottery workshop dates to the Classical period (Fig. 1) and consisted of two stone-built platforms (Fig 2), which were most likely used for the drying of the tiles or bricks produced. In addition, a clay-coated pit was dug and a thick layer of reddish clay (Fig. 3). Similar facilities have been reported in other areas in Athens (AD 44, 55-56; AD 55, 107-110;Arafat and Morgan 1989, 316). The excavation was conducted by E. Konstantinidou.
