Description
Varvara Papadopoulou (Ephorate of Antiquities of Arta) reports the recovery of a stirrup jar near the city of Arta, on the riverbank of Acheloos in 2022. It is an unpainted handmade pithos made of impure clay, preserved in large contiguous sections, and damaged by river floods. The artefact is most likely related to the prehistoric settlement of Agios Vasilios of Piges, where finds from the same period (Middle and Late Bronze Age, second millennium BC) have also been found.
