Description
Mnimata plot, Grades or Kato Ampelia, Mesolongi. Maria Gatsi (ΛΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the excavation of a cist grave, located 300m NW of the recently recorded Doric temple (Fig. 1).
At the upper part of this plot (Fig. 2), a cist grave was found measuring 2 x 0.84m, oriented NW-SE. The grave was made of limestone slabs, and was also covered by slabs. It contained the remains of an adult with its head placed to the SE (Fig. 3), with grave goods including six ceramic vessels (oinochoi, skyphoi and lamps). Two small bronze rings were also found in the area of the skull, an iron nail and two sea shells. In the NE corner there was a small case (0.4 x 0.4m), containing sherds of another vessel.
