Description
Kato Achaia, Aristainetou Street, Ο.Τ. 274 (property of Batzali). Vasiliki Tsaknaki (ΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of a road (13.50x5.80 m.) aligned on a N-S axis in the eastern part of the property. Four successive surfaces were identified, consisting of tile fragments, pottery sherds, pebbles, rubble and beaten earth. The western edge of the road was abutted by a wall (1α-β) made of sandstone blocks, rubble, tile fragments and stones of the local bedrock. Three walls (2, 3 and 4) were attached to its western face, forming four rooms with a façade facing the street (Fig. 3). The excavation produced sherds of cooking and drinking vessels, loom-weights, lamps and part of a hearth. These finds all point to domestic buildings dated mainly to the Hellenistic and Early Roman periods (Figs. 1, 2), although with some Classical pottery collected as well.
